Desperate Housewives Season Premier Semi- Recap
Season 5 Was Worth It!
Susan - Does this women have a thing for handy man or what? The cute painter wants to be her boyfriend but she "doesn't deserve to be happy". 5 years ago Susan and Mike were driving when a women blew a stop sign crashing into them. We find out that she and Mike are not longer together because she couldn't get past the guilt of "killing them."
Bree - My favorite housewife; is an author and cook a la Martha Stewart. Her daughter Danielle came and claimed the baby which sends Bree into perfection mode to the 10th power. Katherine is working for her and not getting any of the glory which provides some classic Desperate Housewife of yesteryear moments between the two. Bree has taken most of Katherine recipes as her own. They are being filmed and Katherine takes this opportunity to claim a hand injury telling Bree that she was just about to spin sugar for a dessert. Bree, spins and gets the sugar stuck to her jewelery creating a classic moment.
Gabbie - Yowza! What happened to the ex tart-let? Gabbie a mom of two girls, one who is a bit on the chunky side. It was so "Gabby" to have her rotund, princess dress daughter run after her car after being promised a doll for some forced exercise. Gabby boot camp.
Carlos is still blind and Gabby is happy about that because without facials she has let herself go. Ummm...welcome to motherhood Gabby. I found it crazy to think that Lynette looks better than Gabby. She has 2 juvenile delinquent boys and two other kids yet manages to look put together but that is just me. I am not the writer so I can't even imagine why they couldn't come up with another reason to let herself go.
Edie - "So Gabby, I have to ask: What the hell happened to you? Carlos might be blind, but the rest of us aren't." Gabby: "I had two children." Edie: "For what? Breakfast?"
Who didn't love Lynette calling one of the girls with a "she's back?!"
Edie, What is up with the marriage? Her husband is an interesting character. Creepy and making Edie seem very Stepford Wifish (is that even a word). But, Edie still looks good in a bikini.
Lynette - and Tom! Ok, her boys are crazy. Lynette still rules. After the boys holding a gambling party at their families pizzeria she asks Tom to man up and have a talk with the boys. She passes by the father/sons convo and hears Tom laughing. Feeling as though Tom is impressed by his Juvie sons she tells the boys that they are allowed to use their father's pride and joy sports car to go out. He gives them the rules, they break them and he is forced to discipline. Lynette 1 - Tom 0.
What do you think?

Desperate Housewives Heads to The Future
I am so psyched for Desperate Housewives tonight.
We pick up the new season 5 years in the future. Brilliant on the writers part I think.
This is a great way to add new blood and change storylines without getting old and stale. More shows should take this route.
I am excited to see why Susan (Terri Hatcher) isn't with Mike. Who married Edie (Nicollette Sheridan). What is going on with Gabriella (Eva Longoria Parker) and Carlos and why is she so damn dumpy in the preview. What are Lynette's (Felicity Huffman) delinquents up to? And, how are Bree (Marcia Cross) and Katherine (Dana Delany) getting along. Where is Orson?
Can't wait!
Dancing With The Stars
I know, I dropped the DWTS ball.
There have been two eliminations since the first show and we are only going into the second week.
The first elimination was Jeffrey Ross who ended up with an eye injury in the first week. Damn Edeyta and her fake nails. She has killed legs and eye slicing nails?! Urmphf!
The second elimination was Ted McGinley. Ted and I were very disappointed. Ted was just beginning to show that he had the goods.
I love me some Cloris Leachman but isn't this a dance competition. I am all for Cloris getting gigs but sending Ted home to keep her. This just calls for another Urmphf!
More to come...

RIP Paul Newman 9-26-08
Paul Newman, one of the greatest actors who ever lived has passed away in his home from Cancer.
In June 2008 it was widely reported that Newman, a former chain smoker, had been diagnosed with lung cancer and was receiving treatment at Sloan-Kettering hospital in New York City.[27] Photographs taken of Newman in May and June showed him looking gaunt.[28] Writer A.E. Hotchner, who partnered with Newman to start Newman's Own salad dressing company in the 1980s, was quoted in the media as saying that Newman told him about the disease about 18 months ago.[29] Newman's spokesman told the press that the star is "doing nicely," but neither confirmed nor denied that he has cancer.[30] In August, Newman reportedly had finished chemotherapy and had told his family he wished to die at home. His daughter, Nell, is poised to take over Newman's Own. {SOURCE}
Paul debuted on the silver screen in 1954 in a movie called the Silver Chalice
How many kids don't know Paul Newman the actor but Paul Newman the salad dressing? Back in June 2008, Paul turned over his entire ownership in Newman’s Own — the company that makes salad dressing and cookies — to charity. It was worth $120 Million dollars.
Here is a movie montage of Paul Newman with music by Staind (one of my favorite bands)

Amateur Movie Review - Then She Found Me
I was privileged enough to review a DVD through from Family Review Network. I love watching movies because honestly it is a rare occurrence in my life these days.
I heard Bette Midler was in the movie and signed on very quickly. If Bette is there, so am I.
Then I heard this was the directorial debut of Helen Hunt. Interesting! Who didn't love her in Mad About You?
Ok, the movie, yeah I am a chronic digressor.
The movie is about April (Helen Hunt), a NY kindergarten teacher who is approaching 40. With her biological clock ticking she learns she is pregnant by her juvenielle soon to be ex-husband (Matthew Broderick) after she falls in love with Mr. Right (Colin Firth).
The "Then She Found Me" part pertains to April's bioloical mom (Bette Midler) who finds her after April's adoptive mom (the only mom she ever knew) dies.
The movie a total chick flick touches on (biological clocks, adoption, artificial insemination, and the rights of birth mothers. There are great performances by the all star cast, but it was very soap operaish to me.
The movie is a supposed comedy but I didn't see it as one. I thought the story was good, very realistic, great cast, strong performances, and a good overall message. After saying that, this is not a movie that will stick with me long after the next movie comes along.
Chotskies gives this a 3 out of 5 star rating.

So What did You Think About DWTS?
Is there anyone who isn't talking about Cloris Leachman today?
I love hearing 82 year old women curse on National TV. BTW...loved Len telling Cloris to "mind her cleavage." Classic!
I loved Julianne and Cody (Hannah Montana's Jake), there were cute and their ages together do not equal Carrie Ann's age. BWaahhhh
Lacey from So You Think You Can Dance who is paired with Lance Bass must not know that he is gay. She was throwing herself all over her youth crush.
Brooke and Derek were worth a gander
Oddly enough I am in love with Rocco Dispiro
So Edyta not only ruins men's pants during the show now she is scratching her partners cornea with her fingernails.

Dancing with the Stars Begins Tonight
I can't wait to see Cloris Leachman, she is 82 years old and she holds a very special place in my heart. I was raised on Mel Brooks movies and Cloris is in all my favorites.
Cody Linley of Hannah Montana fame is teamed with Julianne Hough and I love watching her dance.
I also like the team of Brooke Burke and Derek Hough, that should be an interesting, sexy team.
Rocco DiSpirito is teamed with Karina who I also like watching. I think their practice clips should be fun to watch.
I always liked Toni Braxton, it should be interesting to see if she can hoof like Scary Spice.
Lance Bass is also dancing and I think his fan base will pull him into the top 5 unless he totally sucks.
I could care less about Kim Kardashian
And Susan Lucci, Olympic Misty May-Treanor or Maurice Green, Warren Sapp, Ted McGinley, Jeff Ross totally won't hold my attention.

Barker of Blink 182 and DJ AM Critically Injured
Officials said the plane carrying six people was departing shortly before midnight Friday when air traffic controllers reporting seeing sparks. The plane hurtled off the end of a runway and crashed through antennas and a fence. It came to rest on an embankment across a five-lane highway and was engulfed in flames, said Debbie Hersman, a member of the National Transportation Safety Board.
Barker and DJ AM, whose real name is Adam Goldstein, were in critical condition at a burn center in Augusta, Ga., about 75 miles southwest of Columbia, hospital spokeswoman Beth Frits said.
Two other passengers — Chris Baker, 29, of Studio City, Calif., and Charles Still, 25, of Los Angeles — died, as did pilot Sarah Lemmon, 31, of Anaheim Hills, Calif., and co-pilot James Bland, 52, of Carlsbad, according to the county coroner. Baker was an assistant to Barker and Still was a security guard for the musician.
The plane was headed for Van Nuys, Calif. It is owned by Global Exec Aviation, a California-based charter company, and was certified to operate last year, Hersman said. The company said it had no immediate comment.
At the crash site Saturday, the air was still heavy with the odor of jet fuel. A trail of black soot led off a runway. The nose of the aircraft was gone and the roof was missing from two-thirds of the charred plane.
I pray that both these guys survive and recover. Travis is a colorful character but he loves his kids and I would hate to think that there will be more fatherless babies growing up in the world.

Amateur Book Review - Sam Feels Better Now
Sam and his mom head into a therapist office because Sam "was scared by something" his mother tells the therapist.
The therapist then helps Sam by having him draw pictures, (someone who is scared, something that is scary, people that Sam loves and who love him, etc.) The drawing pages are interactive. This is where the child reading the book will fill in what is pertinent to their situation.
The book is a wonderful tool to help children and their therapist or parent, deal with the child's feelings. We don't know what scared Sam because it will be different for each child.
Sam Feels Better Now is a safe, non threatening way for children to talk about their feelings and how to deal with them. A great way to empower your child to take control of their feelings and deal with them in a healthy way.
I believe this is a great book for ages 4-14 even though the book is geared toward 4-7. The characters are sweet, colorful, non-threatening with big caring eyes.
The purpose of the book is to help children who have experienced traumatic events to be able to learn how to cope, and reduce the effects of traumatic stress.
Great book for a child about to enter therapy or for a parent trying to find out more about their child. Also, a great resource for therapists.

Tips For Driving in The Rain
Below are 10 tips for driving safely and defensively in the rain and severe weather.
1. Adhere to the three second rule – and more. Keep enough distance between you and the car in front of you so in the event of a slide, skid or the motorist behind you hits you, you can prevent hitting the vehicle in front of you. Also, refrain from following large trucks, semi’s or buses too closely since the splash created by larger tires will find your windshield and play havoc with your ability to see.
2. Slow Down. Remember it takes longer to stop when the streets are wet and if your tires are in poor condition, you’ll want to slow down as much as possible.
3. Turn on your headlights. This helps other motorists see you, as well as assist you in better visibility.
4. Stay alert – watch for brake lights in front of you and remember to avoid riding the brake yourself. In rainy weather it’s also difficult to see livestock, pedestrians and wildlife, so be prepared for sudden stops.
5. Never drive in moving water; your car could be swept off the road. Same goes for puddles and standing water – if you can’t see the street or ground through the water on the road; don’t even risk it – especially at night. Stop the vehicle in advance and check the flood level ahead. If the water is higher than the bottom of the vehicle doors or the bottom third of the vehicle wheels, it’s not a good idea to proceed. Instead, attempt to find a different – and much safer – street or road.
6. Pull over, especially when you can no longer see the edge of the road. Pull over onto the shoulder as far as possible, into a restaurant area or a parking lot to wait the storm out. Severe lightening can be hazardous, while high winds and heavy rain can create dangerous driving conditions. Use your hazard lights if you’re pulled over onto the shoulder so that other motorists can see your vehicle.
7. Carry handy windshield wipes in your glove box. They can be used to clean the inside of your windshield.
8. Slow down on approaching turns or curves in the road to prevent the risk of hydroplaning. Hydroplaning is when water comes between the tires of the vehicle and the surface of the road, causing a loss of traction.
9. Keep both hands on the wheel. This isn’t a good time to be chatting on the cell phone.
10. Wiper blades should be replaced once a year, so when your windshield wipers become frayed, broken or loose, it’s a good idea to replace them immediately. You never know when you’re going to get caught up in a heavy thunderstorm, rapid downpour or other forms of severe weather.

Chotskies WTF Section #2
We laughed like hyenas over the guy who is able to discreetly listen at the gym as some girls check out his bod. Seriously, is nothing sacred anymore. How can I talk to my girls about guys if they now have the ability to listen in. No wonder they are so damn big headed these days.
The women sitting in the pew at church next to her husband gave us a chuckle too. We felt she looked like a corpse. I am not sure why she is holding the device up so high, maybe she doesn't want the congregation to think she is listening to a baseball game.
So, if you need to eavesdrop on otherwise private conversation, this is the product for you.

Chotskies WTF Section
Children getting tattoos and body modifications? I would not do this to my kids but if someone wanted to get their 10 year old son's ear pierced because HE WANTS it that is one thing. BUT, babies???? Getting the necessary shots for my babies was hard enough, piercing my daughter's ears was hard because well, I did it for myself. She didn't ask for it. I did it early because when I had mine done at 13 years old I was so nervous that I figured why bother waiting? Hypocrite probably to some. Get over it.
I love how one of the artists bios reads: (he's especially good with the babies -- they're fascinated by all of his mods). Oh, ok....freak!
I really HAVE TO ASSUME THAT THIS IS A JOKE.

Amateur Book Review - Dating Makes You Want To Die - And A Blog Giveaway
I absolutely love this funny, entertaining book! Daniel Holloway and Dorothy Robinson have created the perfect opposite of such books as Men are From Mars, Women are From Venus. The reader will totally appreciate mentions of current media attention hogs like: Lost, George Clooney, Bill O’Reilly, Jeremy Priven, The Hills, and more.
Reading this book is like listening to your cooler, older cousin tell you without the b/s, how to approach the dating world with balls and finesse. “Alcohol will turn the path of your bedroom into a slip n slide.”
The sarcastic banter of the authors is hysterical as they navigate you though all stages of the dating process like:
- First Impressions
- Places to meet potential dates and whether it should be for lunch or dinner.
- Surfing the internet dating sites like eHarmony and Match.com, “like real
- life but faker.”
- How to dress “Bohemian chic costs more than your life, It takes more money than you ever thought possible to spend on items that were made for seven cents by child laborers”.
- The reasons you are not having sex and the remedies. I can think of about 8 people off the top of my head that really need to read and underline all pertinent parts of this chapter. “You got laid back in college but now the life police have pulled up in their responsibility paddy wagon”
- Alcohol has a place in dating. “With booze, your flaws are as hidden as Cameron Diaz’s acne.”
- Preparing for liftoff, “Clean the dishes, clean the toilet, the litter box and anything else that smells like poop.”
- Talking you down when you realize that you just might be in a relationship, “changing your MySpace profile from single to in a relationship.”
- How to move in together successfully and the pros and cons of “the great shared bed hoax.”
- Knowing when it is time to break up and how to do it, “(bullet-proof line) I slept with someone else.”
- And so much more……
This quick, easy read has enough really good points to be considered a self book with humor or enough humor to be considered a self help book on humor. You decide.
You will not be disappointed. Great read for a friend, sibling, family member going off to college, someone entering the dating world again, or even someone already in a relationship who could use a good laugh.
Now, for the Giveaway.
Drum roll please..................................
To get your very own copy of this book....
- Leave a comment here on my other blog.
- A random winner will be selected at midnight September 25th and notified by email no later than September 27th.
- The winner will have 3 days to claim their prize.
A Big Collection of Knock Knock Jokes
Amateur Book Review - Snow Flower and The Secret Fan
This book was recommended by my son's speech instructor who only had good things to say about it.
Sheress and I picked it up as our mini book club pick after Sheress read the back cover.
Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See, is the story of Lily, her "Same" and an ancient language (nu shu – "women's writing") kept a secret for a thousand years forms the backdrop for an unforgettable novel of two Chinese women whose friendship and love sustains them through their lives. Certain girls are paired as "old-sames" in emotional matches that last throughout their lives. They paint letters on fans, embroidered messages on handkerchiefs, and composed stories, thereby reaching out of their windows to share their hopes, dreams, and accomplishments.
The story is engrossing and extremely interesting. It takes place in 10th century China and is wonderfully written. Very poetic and moves beautifully as you read. I never felt it slowed or got boring or too wordy.
There were some very disturbing parts of the book for me. The descriptions of what girls would go through for foot binding at their hands of their own mothers were a little hard to read.
Also, the fact that these women feel that "they were born wrong" simply because they weren't born men is also hard to swallow. As a daughter you are married out and your family receives a bounty for your hand. You live with your family after marriage and only move into your husband's families home after you give birth. You serve your mother-in-law or whatever elder mother is in the home until you move up the ranks (hopefully).
Son's on the other hand marry and their wives and children move into the family home to serve you. Since a family receives a bounty of food, jewels, fabric and other things for the hand of a women I find them very valuable. I think their way of thinking is a bit backward but that's just me. What the hell do I know?
If you are looking for a great read, with beautiful elegance and history, read Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. I was inspired by some of the traditions between the women of China and my heart goes out to anyone who ever feels they were born wrong.
Read a sample here.

Need just a little Piece of Cake????
While Entrecard dropping today I stumbled upon this from Channah at Get A Grip, Mom!
I have discovered the joy that is homemade chocolate cake in the microwave, much to the dismay of my waistband. Not only is this ridiculously easy to make, it's also individual-sized (okay, I split this into two pieces, since it's pretty large, but it could be individual)!
Cup (Mug) Cake!
You will need the following kitchen utensils:
1 magic mixing fork (okay, a fork, but doesn't it sound more fun calling it that?)
1 mug/cup (not some dinky cup - you want the one that holds enough coffee to get you going)
1 Tablespoon (for measuring everything out)
1 Microwave (because how else will you cook it?)
Ingredients:
4 Tbs flour
4 Tbs sugar
2 Tbs cocoa powder
1 egg
3 Tbs oil
3 Tbs milk
1. Measure out dry ingredients into cup.
2. Pour egg into cup.
3. Pour oil and milk into cup.
4. Mix well with your magic mixing fork!
5. Microwave for 3 minutes.
Careful, it's going to be hot!
I've experimented with adding cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves - all with good success. However, I tried adding chocolate chips, and, while delicious, the cake stuck to the mug a bit, so I have to play around with the recipe some more - maybe spraying it with cooking spray?
Enjoy!
